Although I think it would be more interesting for Alice to be a little kid in the film, I don't think it would be a good idea, since putting a little girl next to Depp as the Hatter would only make him look like some sort of pedo... if you know what I mean >_>

Haven't seen the movie but it is a bit of an scary mental image.... I mean, the Mad Hatter is an bit of an oddball, and he seemed kind of off in the cartoon Disney version.

The relationship between Alice and the Hatter could be interpreted as that way, but I didn't interpret it as that personally. Like Hoa said, I saw it more as familial/BFF, especially with that one scene where Alice reflects her father's words. Sort of like the inverse of the scene in the beginning with her dad; instead, she's comforting the "father" figure (the Hatter's more like a crazy awesome older brother/cousin, but eh, slant parallel, wut). I mean. There was some implication that people from Alice's life were somewhat parallel with certain people in Wonderland, so...yeah. I kind of parallel-ed the Hatter with Alice's father. IDK, though. I'm terrible at any sort of story/film analysis so that's probably wrong. And is probably more telling of my own hang-ups with that idea than anything else.
My friends did see it the way Eira saw it, though so...yeah. And I quote my friend, "I swear, they looked like they were going to make out in that one scene, or something." :'Dd And there's definite evidence for that interpretation; the balcony scene, the farewell scene, the Hatter's sacrifice ("The Hatter wouldn't give himself up for just ANY Alice."), aaand the list goes on... orz

Yeah, I think that the brother/sister or bffl relationship is probably more what they were going for since it's Disney, buuuuut... >_> I still think they would have been a cool pairing...
I agree though, they were definitely drawing parallels to the people in the real world and in Wonderland. Alice even mentions that the twin girls remind her of the Tweedles.
I loved the Tweedles so much. XDD
